NORTH COAST MEN'S CHORUS

This space has been donated to the Men's Chorus by the Chronicle, and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Chronicle staff or management. by Jeff Wobbecke

I know there are a few things worse than being the bearer of bad tidings, but let's face it: Summer is coming to a close. Yeah,

we get August and then September-but short and sweet, like a doomed love affair, it is all over.

What was the tipoff? The Chorus is starting rehearsals this month for our gala '91-'92 season

And we are looking for a few good men to join our band of merry men.

Rehearsals start on the last Sunday of August, the 25th. We rehearse at the Judson Manor on East 107th Street and Chester in University Circle-the old Wade Park Hotel. Is that a fabulous ballroom or what?

Rehearsals start at 7:30 p.m. and generally run for two hours. New voices will be welcome after 7:00 p.m.-August rehearsal only-for placing by voice range. We do not audition. We practice inclusion, not exclusion.

You don't have to be an experienced, well-trained singer to join. Remember that a chorus is a blend of voices, to which each of us must contribute. Most of us do this for fun, not perfection.

And the upcoming season promises to

Hello gay and lesbian Cleveland:

Well, another "Dancin' In the Streets" has come and gone. If attendance was any indication, it was a huge success. It's been a long time since I've seen so many lesbians and gays out in public, and having a good time too! I saw people out I hadn't seen in months. I heard nothing but compliments all around for everyone. The volunteers did a splendid job setting up, working during the day, and cleaning up afterwards. I was proud to be there representing my community and my church.

Emmanuel Metropolitan Community Church would like to thank HIT for doing this monstrous event every year, and inviting us to be a part of it with a booth. We enjoy the outreach we get by going to these functions, to better show the public how we operate. Thanks to all who stopped by our table to inquire about our worship services, and our many extra-curricular activities. We had one of our many photo albums at our table, and were pleased that so many of you took the time to flip through it. Thanks also to those of you who practically cleaned us out of brochures and fliers! For the volunteers who staffed the table, a

be a lot of fun as well as a lot of work. We are adding a third concert to our usual twoconcert schedule.

Our first concert will be a holiday affair with brass orchestra in mid-December to start the winter season.

The second concert will be an "invitational." We have invited choruses from other cities to appear with us in a celebration of song and pride. This event is scheduled for March 21. The music of American composers and lyricists will be featured at this concert.

We will be doing our spring concert in June. Special guests for this Pride week event are the dynamic Romanovsky and Phillips. This sounds like the high point of

the season to me.

The theme for this concert is "Our Musical Heritage," and we will focus on works by gay and lesbian composers. Two of those composers are local talent-each writing from his or her perspective. We are pleased to be premiering their works in Cleveland.

Keep an eye out for this column in future issues of the Chronicle for additional information and announcements.

What else will the season hold? Possible excursions to other cities, numerous social affairs, certainly a sense of camaraderie and a chance to get involved in a fun community group.

For information on tickets for the coming season, ad space in our programs, or how to become a patron contact the NCMC at P.O. Box 15181, Cleveland, OH 44115, or call Jeff Wobbecke at 651-1148. ▼

hearty "thank you" from the organizer of the Emmanuel table. You all represented us in a fine way.

For the rest of the hot summer, Emmanuel has scheduled a few guest ministers to bring the word from their respective churches in other cities. One of my personal favorites, Joyce from Akron, will be preaching (and I do mean preaching!) for us in Cleveland. Look for her and her spouse on August 18.

One of the most dynamic personalities to ever come out of Michigan, Rev. Lynn, will be traveling to bless us with her gospel from God. We wish her and her spouse a safe journey here and back. Get there early on August 11 to assure yourself seating. Our neighbors from Toledo are letting their pastor, Rev. Paul, have a Sunday off, and we will be better for it. His sermons are always moving. A safe trip to you, Paul and your companion as you travel here for us.

Our final guest for August, on the fourth, our Great Lakes liaison, will be down to deliver the Word. This would be also an excellent time to learn more about Emmanuel, as she will be conducting the board meeting after Sunday worship. Come and learn how our fellowship churches operate.

Finally, Membership classes will be offered Saturday, August 3. Anyone interested in membership, or in just taking a class to better understand Christianity and homosexuality, call the church at 6510129. Your call will be returned as soon as possible. Until next month, Peace and God Bless. See you at 10:45 a.m. on Sundays! ▼
